We’re thrilled to welcome the newest member of our Advisory Board, Gina Belafonte, who co-directs Sankofa.org, and was one of three activist artists who headlined our 25th anniversary celebration last fall. Sankofa.org was founded by Gina’s father Harry - also a member of our Advisory Board - to encourage artists to use their platforms to bring attention to social justice issues. Gina is an actor and film producer, and is active in the movement for black lives and other civil rights issues. The RFC met Gina through our sponsorship of Seeger Fest, the 2014 festival honoring Pete and Toshi Seeger that Gina co-produced with the festival’s creator, Kitama Seeger Jackson (grandson of Pete and Toshi, and an RFC Advisory Board member as well).
“I’m honored to link another generation of the Belafonte family to the legacy of resistance kept alive by generations of the Rosenberg/Meeropol family,” notes Gina. “And as an artist, activist and parent, I’m proud to endorse this organization that has created a unique and vital community of support for the families of those targeted in the fight for justice.”
