2018 is shaping up to be another year of fruitful connections with generous, progressive artists. Over the summer RFC supporters in Brooklyn hosted a benefit featuring music by Grammy-nominated bluesman Guy Davis (pictured), the son of Ruby Dee and RFC Advisory Board member in memoriam Ossie Davis. We sponsored “An Alternative 4th of July” at the New York chapter of the National Writers Union, which brought together musicians, poets, writers, and activists to celebrate Frederick Douglass.
Board of Directors member José Ayerve turned a show by his indie rock band SPOUSE into a benefit for us. Singer-songwriter Seth Glier, who’s toured with Ani DiFranco and Ryan Adams and has also been nominated for a Grammy, did the same. And we'll receive proceeds from Cabaret of Dissent, a music and poetry festival in Brooklyn on September 8th, produced by artist and organizer John Pietaro.
As fall arrives, we’re looking ahead to one, final musical benefit*. On October 28th, The Nields (folk singing sisters Nerissa and Katryna) will headline an evening of peace and justice-themed songs in Northampton, MA, opened by the children’s chorus Nerissa leads.
Visit www.rfc.org/events for details, and if you’d like to host an RFC benefit or you’re an artist who’d like to connect with us, contact us at (413) 529-0063 or info@rfc.org.
(*A house concert in the Washington, DC area with The Nields that was originally scheduled for October 2018 has been postponed. We'll announce a rescheduled date as soon as possible.)
