On June 19th, 2018, a crowd gathered at the memorial to the Rosenbergs in Havana, Cuba to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the couple’s execution. A singer performed a rendition of Ethel and Julius’ last letter to their children, set to music by Cuban artist Pablo Milanes.
José Altshuler, a Cuban physicist who founded MOVPAZ (Movimiento Cubano por la Paz y la Soberania de los Pueblos, or Cuban Movement for Peace and Sovereignty of the Peoples), spoke at the ceremony. “We have gathered here to remember the…courage with which the couple confronted their execution in the electric chair, victims of a politically motivated conviction in the times of the Cold War and witch hunting in the USA.”
Participants placed a floral arrangement at the memorial, which is the only one of its kind in the world. The ribbons on the wreath read, "To the Rosenberg couple, from the people of Cuba."
