We are incredibly gratified to share that on February 10th, Mass. Congressman Jim McGovern made a speech on the House floor to share Ethel Rosenberg's story and issue an apology to the Rosenberg/Meeropol family. This was the first time a sitting politician in Washington has made a public admission of the tragedy of Ethel's execution, admonishing a government that would allow such an injustice. Her family was moved to tears by the gesture.
From his speech, "Let the congressional record show, and every person in this building know, the U.S. government knew that Ethel Rosenberg was innocent. We knew that she was not a spy, and we executed her anyway. And I find that to be a disgrace, and I want to apologize for the pain and grief her family suffered because of what happened."
Rep. McGovern has been a stalwart supporter of the Exonerate Ethel campaign for many years, and we will always remember this generous act of kindness.
