The RFC will be on the road in 2018, hosting events around the country. Once again we’re teaming up with generous activist artists to raise funds while we entertain and educate about our work. [Check out the short video here for a look at one of our most exciting activist artist events of 2017.]
We’re still pinning down details for several of these programs, but we’re excited to announce that these four are confirmed:
Guy Davis benefit house concert: June 3, Brooklyn, NY. Blues brunch with this Grammy-nominated, nationally touring, second generation activist artist who is the son of Ruby Dee and RFC Advisory Board member in memoriam, Ossie Davis.
Seth Glier benefit concert: Aug 10, The Guthrie Center, Great Barrington, MA. Grammy nominated, singer-songwriter whose latest album, Birds, includes songs ranging from the personal to political. Glier has toured with artists such as Ani DiFranco and Ryan Adams.
The Nields benefit house concert: Oct 12, McLean, VA: An evening with sisters Nerissa & Katryna Nields, veteran favorites of the Northeast folk scene, at the home of their parents, who met at a Pete Seeger concert.
The Nields & Local Chorus, “Songs of Hope & Resistance”: Oct 28, Congregation B’Nai Israel, Northampton, MA. Family-oriented, sing-a-long benefit concert with folk duo and children’s chorus.
In addition, we hope to have programs in San Francisco, New York City and elsewhere. Our tentative plans include:
Benefit house party: date t.b.d., San Francisco. Special guest to be announced.
An evening of poetry and music: date and New York City location t.b.d. Focus on “Strange Fruit” and the nexus between the Harlem Renaissance, Greenwich Village and the Communist Party, in early to mid-20th century New York.
We’ll need help with set-up and clean-up, donating refreshments, distributing hard copy or email flyers, sharing on social media and other tasks. If you’d like to volunteer, or if you’d like to explore organizing an additional event in your area, contact Amber in our office at amber@rfc.org or (413) 529-0063.
To get the earliest notice when we announce further details, join our email list, check rfc.org/events, or follow us on social media.
