September 9th, 2011 marked the 40th anniversary of the uprising at the Attica Correctional Facility in upstate New York that resulted in the death of 39 people, many of them inmates. After decades of struggle for compensation for the “Attica Brothers,” New York State finally settled with the surviving inmates in 2001. Later that year major donations made by two of the lead attorneys for the inmates endowed our prison visit program, which was renamed the Attica Prison Visit Fund.
