Dear RFC Community,
It’s been over ten years since I retired as RFC Executive Director. Like many aging people, I reflect on what I’ll leave behind and how, as a senior, I can best help the RFC. In their final letter my parents wrote that they were comforted in the sure knowledge that others would carry on after them. Seventy one years later, the Rosenberg Fund for Children honors that trust by offering our community’s support to the children of targeted activists. Do you, like me, seek to ensure that others will carry on after we are gone?
There is one action any senior can take that will accomplish that end: include the RFC in your will to help ensure that we will always be here to stand with the children of resistance. By making a bequest to the RFC you can justify my parents’ faith in continuing progressive activism as well as demonstrate your belief that the struggle must continue.
The growing threat of fascism means the RFC faces tumultuous decades ahead. We are already bursting at the seams with increased applications. We know these needs will grow and an influx of posthumous support from our generation will ensure that the RFC stays up to the challenge.
In its 34-year history the RFC has received almost $2,000,000 from the estates of dozens of forward thinking individuals. Over 100 others have notified us of their intention to make a bequest to the RFC. It isn’t a difficult thing to do. The simplest way to include the RFC in your will is to insert language similar to what follows:
“I give, devise and bequeath the Rosenberg Fund for Children, a 501(c)(3) organization, whose address is 116 Pleasant Street, Suite 348, Easthampton, MA 01027, the sum of _____ dollars (or describe real or personal property, or stocks, or ___% of my estate) to be used for its general purposes.”
I suggest consulting an attorney about what seems most appropriate. The RFC will be happy to provide them with proof of its tax-exempt status and answer any other questions.
Please take the time now to consider making the RFC a beneficiary of your estate. You can email info@rfc.org or call (413) 529-0063 to obtain the information you need. It may take generations to transform our society, but with a legacy gift you can project your financial support into the future and help bring about that change.
With Gratitude,
Robert Meeropol, Founder, RFC
